Vintage pocket cigarette case produced in the USSR in 1952, featuring a highly detailed historic relief portrait celebrating the legendary literary giant Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol, custom-crafted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the writer's death.
The front of the case showcases a sharp, polished bas-relief bust portrait of Gogol set against a finely textured, contrast stipple-pattern background. Directly below the portrait, an elegant ribbon scroll banner is engraved with the historic centenary commemorative dates "1852 1952". The reverse side features a beautifully rendered classical composition showcasing a sweeping laurel branch of victory alongside a traditional writing ink quill pen. This highly collectible mid-century souvenir piece features a smooth silver-tone finish with an authentic aged patina.
This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
