Vintage pocket cupronickel cigarette case produced in the USSR during the 1950s, featuring an exceptionally sharp, detailed high-relief artistic recreation of the famous classical hunting scene from Vasily Grigorievich Perov's iconic 1871 painting, "Hunters at Rest" (Охотники на привале).
The front of the case masterfully showcases the expressive interaction between three hunters relaxing on the grass after a hunt: the passionate storyteller gesturing wildly on the left, the skeptical listener scratching his head in the center, and the captivated young novice on the right. Detailed hunting gear, shotguns, and harvested game are beautifully embossed in the foreground. The reverse side carries an authentic, historic hand-engraved Soviet dedicatory travel inscription: "Дорогому другу. Ессентуки. 1958 г." (To a dear friend. Essentuki. 1958). The piece features a refined silver-tone finish with an authentic aged patina.
This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
