Vintage pocket metal cigarette case produced in the USSR, crafted as an exceptionally powerful literary commemorative piece dedicated to the famous Soviet writer and revolutionary cultural icon, Maxim Gorky (Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, 1868–1936).

The front of the silver-tone metal case features a sharp, crisp high-relief artistic depiction of the iconic Maxim Gorky monument standing on a raised stone pedestal inscribed with his signature facsimile "М. Горький". The author is portrayed in a defiant stance with a blowing coat against a scenic background of rippling Volga river waters, forested shores, a soaring petrel bird, and stylized lightning-swept clouds. The base of the monument is beautifully framed by milestone jubilee banners reading the commemorative dates "1868" and "1936". Resting at the absolute bottom center is an open embossed book clearly displaying the Cyrillic text "ПЕСНЯ О БУРЕВЕСТНИКЕ" (The Song of the Petrel), flanked by laurel and wheat branches.

The reverse side of the case features a historic, deeply stamped excerpt from Gorky's legendary revolutionary prose-poem: "Это смелый Буревестник гордо реет между молний над ревущим гневно морем; то кричит пророк победы: — Пусть сильнее грянет буря!.." (This is the brave Petrel proudly soaring between lightning over the angrily roaring sea; then the prophet of victory cries out: — Let the storm break out stronger!..). This highly collectible piece displays an incredible historical patina and a polished silver-tone finish.

This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
