Vintage pocket metal cigarette case produced in the USSR, featuring an exceptionally rich, panoramic high-relief artistic depiction of the historic city of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) as viewed from the Volga River.
The front of the silver-tone metal case showcases a highly detailed landscape highlighting the city's most famous landmarks. The composition prominently features the monumental Chkalov Stairs sweeping up the hillside toward the defensive stone walls and towers of the historic Gorky Kremlin. On the water in the foreground, a classic Soviet double-deck passenger river cruise steamship cuts through the textured waves of the Volga. At the bottom, a stylized ribbon banner features the Cyrillic landmark inscription "Г. ГОРЬКИЙ — ВИД С ВОЛГИ" (Gorky City — View from the Volga). The entire scenic illustration is beautifully framed by an ornate rope-twist border design, displaying an authentic mid-century character and an attractive aged patina.
This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
