Vintage pocket cigarette case produced in the USSR during the 1950s–1970s, beautifully celebrating the grand Soviet chess tradition with an elegant, mid-century geometric design.
The front of the silver-tone case features a rich layout of engine-turned textures, combining diagonal ray patterns and basketweave finishes arranged in an Art Deco style diamond composition. At the absolute center lies a polished diamond-shaped medallion showcasing a chess knight piece set against a micro-checkered chessboard background pattern. In the upper left corner, an empty rectangular shield element (cartouche) is left open, perfectly suited for custom engraving of the owner's initials or a personalized commemorative inscription. The piece is finished with an authentic aged patina.
This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
