Vintage pocket cigarette case produced in the USSR, featuring a striking and beautifully detailed high-relief artistic depiction of the legendary Ukrainian Hetman and Cossack leader, Bohdan Khmelnitsky.
The front of the case showcases the iconic dynamic silhouette of Khmelnitsky in traditional Cossack attire, firmly commanding his muscular, rearing stallion atop a rocky hill pedestal—a design deeply inspired by the famous historical monument in Kyiv. The high-relief figures are seamlessly molded directly into the deep, rich dark brown textolite panels, which have been polished up to a smooth, glass-like glossy sheen. The textolite structures are securely housed within a sturdy silver-tone metal frame. This rare regional Ukrainian historical collectible carries an authentic mid-century character and aged patina.
This vintage cigarette case has been restored: the metal has been cleaned and polished, minor touch-ups have been applied where the original finish was lost, and, if needed, the internal elastic bands have been replaced. The original aesthetics have been preserved, making it a great addition to any collection. The side locking mechanism is completed with a mechanical push-button closure.
