A highly significant and historically vital collection of vintage money stamps from Ukraine, representing the first official definitive and currency issue of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) in 1918.
Designed by legendary Ukrainian graphic masters Heorhiy Narbut and Anton Sereda, these stamps were uniquely printed on thin cardboard without gum or perforations to serve dual purposes: as standard postage and as emergency paper fractional currency (stamp money / "grosh-marqy") to mitigate acute wartime coin shortages during the Ukrainian War of Independence. The finely detailed national designs showcase the State Tryzub (Trident) emblem enclosed in traditional floral ornamentation alongside the iconic "Young Ukraine" profile wearing a multi-flower wreath. All items are preserved in premium unused Mint Hinged (MH) condition with full original revolutionary character and no cancellation marks.
Features:
- Set of 4 vintage stamps (highly sought-after foundational independent Ukrainian type run)
- Authentic 1918 Ukrainian People's Republic (UPR) original first national issues
- Printed during the historic Ukrainian independence struggle and chaotic post-WWI era
- Historic dual-use design serving as legal tender fractional paper money
- Exquisite classical layouts featuring the National Trident emblem and Narbut's allegorical portraits
- Mint Hinged (MH) condition (unused, clean mint condition without postmarks or ink damage)
The set includes the following classic regional "Shahiv" (Шагів) denominations:
- 10 shahiv (green / Sereda design), 20 shahiv (brown / Narbut design), 40 shahiv (green / Narbut design), and 50 shahiv (red / Narbut design).
A fascinating collectible for:
- Ukrainian philately, specialized UPR experts, and Eastern European bank note / currency historians
- worldwide collectors focused on emergency provisional tender, stamp money, and national heraldry on stamps
- Ukrainian national movement, revolutionary history buffs, and early 20th-century graphic art enthusiasts
- premium investment-grade vintage ephemera and international financial/military archives
The stamps are photographed in detail so collectors can carefully examine the condition, unperforated border edges, ink richness, and original paper card stock included in the set.
You will receive the exact collection shown in the photos.
Please note:
- This is an original vintage philatelic and numismatic collection from 1918, not a modern reproduction.
- Minor signs of age, natural paper/cardboard toning, or album storage marks may be present due to the century-old and wartime nature of the items.
- Carefully packed and shipped worldwide from Ukraine.
- Import duties or taxes may apply depending on your country’s regulations.
