A beautiful and highly historic regional issue from the Russian Civil War era: an original 1 Don Ruble banknote, officially issued in 1918 by the Rostov-on-Don Office of the State Bank (Ростовская н-Д. Контора Государственного Банка).
Known popularly as the "Don Ruble", this currency was produced to stabilize the local economy in Southern Russia amid the revolutionary breakdown of central cash distributions. The design is deeply heavily inspired by classical Imperial banknote themes, featuring ornate frame borders, two large decorative numerals "1", the emblem of the 1917 Russian Republic (the double-headed eagle without crown or regalia), and the authentic signatures of Governor Gulbin and the cashier.
