A stunning, historically rich collection of antique semi-postal stamps issued by the Russian Empire in late 1914. This iconic series was created to raise funds "For the Benefit of Warriors and Their Families" at the outbreak of World War I, under the auspices of the Imperial Women's Patriotic Society.
This particular philatelic set stands out for its excellent study of shade, paper, and layout variations, containing multiple copies of identical denominations. The beautifully detailed, finely engraved designs showcase legendary and historical Russian defenders, including the mythical hero Ilya Muromets, St. George the Victorious on horseback, and Prince Dmitry Donskoy. Select stamps in this layout bear authentic period postmarks and ink cancellations, while the rest preserve Mint Hinged (MH) collection status on the reverse.

Features:

  • Set of 14 vintage stamps (carefully selected singles and shade varieties)
  • Authentic 1914 Russian Empire semi-postal charity issues
  • World War I (WWI) early wartime era
  • Iconic historical designs: Ilya Muromets, St. George, and Dmitry Donskoy
  • Premium study set featuring distinct color hues and variations from the series
  • Mint Hinged (MH) condition with select historical cancellation marks / postmarks

The set includes stamps with various base and charity denominations, such as:

  • 1+1 kopeck (Ilya Muromets), 3+1 kopeck (St. George), and 5+1 kopeck (Dmitry Donskoy).

A fascinating collectible for:

  • Imperial Russian and European classic philately experts
  • worldwide collectors specializing in WWI, military history, and charity/semi-postal shade variations
  • Russian Empire history buffs and early 20th-century graphic art enthusiasts
  • premium vintage ephemera and historical paper archives

The stamps are photographed in detail so collectors can carefully examine the condition, perforation variations, subtle color differences, and margins included in the set.
You will receive the exact collection shown in the photos.
