A stunning, historically rich collection of antique semi-postal stamps issued by the Russian Empire in late 1914. This iconic series was created to raise funds "For the Benefit of Warriors and Their Families" at the outbreak of World War I, under the auspices of the Imperial Women's Patriotic Society.
This philatelic set is highly notable for its composition, featuring an exceptional quarter block of 4 stamps (1-kopeck denomination) attached to its original blank sheet margin, alongside six individual single stamps. The beautifully detailed, finely engraved designs showcase legendary and historical Russian defenders, including Ilya Muromets, St. George the Victorious, Dmitry Donskoy, and Kozma Minin with Dmitry Pozharsky. All stamps are in premium Mint Hinged (MH) condition with full original character, clean margins, and no cancellation marks.
Features:
- Set of 10 vintage stamps (1 pristine quarter block of 4 and 6 individual singles)
- Authentic 1914 Russian Empire semi-postal charity issues
- World War I (WWI) early wartime era
- Iconic historical designs: Ilya Muromets, St. George, Dmitry Donskoy, and Minin & Pozharsky
- Includes a premium block with intact sheet margin
- Mint Hinged (MH) condition (unused, clean mint condition without postmarks)
The set includes stamps with various base and charity denominations, such as:
- 1+1 kopeck (Ilya Muromets), 3+1 kopeck (St. George), 5+1 kopeck (Dmitry Donskoy), and 10+1 kopeck (Minin and Pozharsky).
