A magnificent and historically deep collection of antique postage stamps from the Russian Empire, issued during the final golden years of the tsarist era in 1913.
This specialized philatelic set beautifully combines the iconic Romanov Dynasty Tercentenary commemorative portraits with scarce provisional overprints from the Russian Post in the Ottoman Empire (Russian Levant). The top row showcases premium Romanov base issues modified with bold black Levant currency overprints in "Para" and "Piastre" values for merchant routes in the Mediterranean and Near East. The middle and lower sections display standard portrait definitives of historic rulers (including Nicholas II, Peter the Great, and Catherine the Great) alongside large-format scenic stamps of the Moscow Kremlin and the Winter Palace. Select pieces bear authentic period town postmarks and postal cancellations, while the rest preserve Mint Hinged (MH) collection status on the reverse.
Features:
- Set of 20 antique stamps
- Authentic 1913 Romanov Tercentenary and specialized Russian Levant foreign office issues
- Features 4 scarce Levant currency overprints ("Para" and "Piastre") on imperial bases
- Detailed finely engraved portraits of Russian Tsars, Empresses, and historical palaces
- Includes premium large-format scenic architecture and Kremlin denominations
- Mint Hinged (MH) condition with select pieces showing heavy historical cancellation marks / postmarks
The set includes stamps with various classic pre-revolutionary denominations and surcharges, such as:
