A highly specialized and historically significant collection of antique postage stamps from the Russian Post in the Ottoman Empire (Russian Levant / ROPiT), issued between 1909 and 1910 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Russian Society of Shipping and Trade.
This exceptional philatelic type set is composed entirely of the iconic jubilee series modified with bold black localized overprints naming specific Levant ports and historical holy destinations. The collection includes scarce, sought-after city overprints such as Jaffa, Constantinople, Beyrouth (Beirut), Dardanelles, Jerusalem, Kerassunde, Metelin, and Mont-Athos. The overprints also feature corresponding Turkish currency valuations in "Para" and "Piastre". Almost every single piece in this uniform assembly bears an authentic, beautifully preserved period circular postmark from its respective foreign office. The reverse side beautifully preserves Mint Hinged (MH) collection status.
Features:
- Set of 17 antique stamps
- Authentic Russian Levant (ROPiT / Russian foreign offices in the Ottoman Empire) issues
- Circa 1909–1910 maritime shipping jubilee era
- Features localized black overprints for Jaffa, Constantinople, Beirut, Mount Athos, and Jerusalem
- Includes pre-printed currency conversions to Turkish Para and Piastre denominations
- Mint Hinged (MH) condition with heavy historical cancellation marks / postmarks / port stamps
The set includes stamps with various base formats and overprinted denominations, such as:
- 5 para, 10 para, 20 para, and 1 piastre values.
