A magnificent, rare, and highly sophisticated philatelic type set from the late tsarist era of the Russian Empire, focusing entirely on its specialized foreign maritime operations in the Near East and Mediterranean via the Russian Post in the Ottoman Empire (Russian Levant / ROPiT), dating from approximately 1900 to 1910.
The top row features an exceptional run of rare, large-format 1909–1910 ROPiT shipping jubilee definitives in imperforate styles, displaying detailed steamships and heraldry under massive high-value overprints, highlighted by the ultimate 50 PIASTRES top-tier value and distinct shade studies of the 10-Piastres. The middle row transitions into a detailed run of Piastre surcharges applied over both large-format and standard tsarist bases. The lower row beautifully completes the set with a uniform assembly of low-value kopeck definitives modified by crisp black "5 PARA" and "10 PARA" overprints. Select stamps in this layout bear authentic period circular postmarks and cancellation signs from foreign port routes, while beautifully preserving Mint Hinged (MH) collection status on the reverse.
