A historically vital and highly collectable philatelic type set from the late tsarist era of the Russian Empire and its specialized foreign operations, dating approximately from 1900 to the 1910s.
The collection beautifully highlights the scarce issues of the Russian Post in the Ottoman Empire (Russian Levant / ROPiT). The middle row showcases a brilliant uniform run of maritime shipping jubilee bases modified with bold black localized port overprints and Turkish currency conversions, including the sought-after "5 PARA", "10 PARA", and "20 PARA" denominations. The lower sections expand the collection with rare provisional hyperinflation surcharges—featuring a prominent black "1" Ruble emergency overprint on a kopeck base—alongside specialized "Eastern Correspondence" and savings stamps. A significant majority of the pieces in this layout bear authentic period circular postmarks and cancellation signs from Mediterranean and Near East routes, while beautifully preserving Mint Hinged (MH) collection status on the reverse.
Features:
- Set of 27 antique stamps
- Authentic Russian Empire definitive and specialized Russian Levant (ROPiT) foreign office issues
- Circa 1900 to 1915 pre-revolutionary and early WWI transition era
- Features localized Ottoman Empire currency overprints (5, 10, and 20 Para denominations)
