A magnificent and highly specialized historical collection of antique postage stamps from the Russian Empire, beautifully combining scarce Zemstvo (Rural/Local Government) provincial issues with iconic early 20th-century charity stamps.
The top row showcases highly sought-after rural definitive issues from specific imperial counties, including Pskov (featuring the regional snow leopard coat of arms), Shadrinsk (with a marten design), Belozersk (showing regional lake fish), Bugulma, and two distinct local Zwei Kop. issues from the District of Wenden (Livonia Province) depicting an armored arm wielding a sword. The lower row displays the complete and famous 1905 semi-postal series issued under the Imperial Women's Patriotic Society "For the Benefit of Orphans of Soldiers of the Active Army" during the Russo-Japanese War, paired with a large-format classic ornate Wenden county stamp. Select pieces in this uniform layout bear authentic period postal cancellations and heavy cancellations, while the rest preserve Mint Hinged (MH) collection status on the reverse.

Features:

  • Set of 11 antique stamps
  • Authentic Russian Empire Zemstvo local posts and wartime charity semi-postal issues
  • Circa 1890s to 1905 Russo-Japanese War era
  • Includes rare local issues from Pskov, Wenden, Shadrinsk, Belozersk, and Bugulma counties
  • Features the complete 4-stamp 1905 military orphan relief series with detailed engravings
  • Mint Hinged (MH) condition with select pieces showing heavy historical cancellation marks / postmarks / circular stamps

The set includes stamps with various classic pre-revolutionary denominations, such as:

  • 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 40 kopecks (including specialized charity surcharges).

A fascinating collectible for:

  • Imperial Russia specialized philately experts and global Zemstvo/local post collectors
  • worldwide philatelists tracking pre-WWI local provisional posts, regional heraldry, and military charities
  • Russo-Japanese War historians, Livonian/Baltic regional researchers, and tsarist coat of arms buffs
  • investment-grade vintage ephemera and international historical paper archives

The stamps are photographed in detail so collectors can carefully examine the condition, perforation crispness, sharp embossed lines, and authentic postmarks included in the set.
You will receive the exact collection shown in the photos.
